Hello,

2001 Pontiac Grand Am Se V6 Automatic. Was overheating. Radiator, waterpump changed first. Still had problem and the heater hose blew 2 times. That is fixed now.

Still had the problem months down the road. Oh and also no heat. They told me the intake gaskets. So replaced those too. Along with the thermostat.

Mechanic is telling me normal to go from 200 to 220 in temp????

Also have a 195 degree thermostat in it. Supposedly both fans are coming on, and the AC works fine but it still overheating? He states it pressure tests fine and no leaks?

My concern is until all this overheating surfaced my temperature never ran above 200 degrees.

HELP!!

what temperature are the fans kicking in, could be a bad sensor causing them to turn on late

If you're driving in stop 'n go traffic in >80F weather, then I'd grudgingly agree with him. No heat leads me to think an air lock in the heater line or head gasket problem. Lack of engine vacuum will cause the heater switch to not open the valve to allow coolant to flow to the heater core. A/C will still work because no engine coolant flow is required for the heater core. Could also be a problem with your heat adjustment.

If it never saw over 200F before then you're right to think something isn't right. I'd be looking to take it to another mechanic.
