2001 Pontiac Grand Am Overheating and heater blowing cold air?

We have changed the water pump and thermostat. What else could it be?

sounds like you have air in the system otherwise you would have heat

air pocket which is preventing the water pump from moving the coolant.
open the bleeder and let the air out, squeeze the hose to push coolant around.
