I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. I ran out of gas on Sunday afternoon (first time ever running out of gas)
When the car ran out of gas, my TRAC OFF light came on. Once I put gas in it and drove away, the light went out. Today, (Thursday) I was at the store and when I went to start my car, it chugged and once it started the TRAC OFF light came on again. As I was driving down the road, my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. Usually when this light come on, the gas cap is loose. I tightened it and took the car for a drive. The light stayed on. When my car switches into the next gear, it is now jumping into the next gear.
My question is... is this a fuel pump problem or a transmission problem? Are they related in any way? I know that running out of gas is bad, and trust me, I've beaten myself up over it, so please don't reply making fun of me for being foolish!!!
Where can I go to get a code reader where they aren't going to charge me an arm and a leg to do so.
