problems? I have several problems with this car. I have several lights on which include the "ABS" light, and I believe the "Service Engine Soon" light and a third light but I cannot remember off the top of my head, but I had them checked out and the mechanic said it was my brakes. I got new brakes and the lights are still on. I unplugged the battery to see if it would reset the computer, but when I plugged the battery back the lights were still on. Also, while I am driving I hear a screeching noise and it is mostly when I turn the wheel towards the left. I only hear the noise when I am on the highway or driving approx. over 40 MPH. Anyone have an idea as to what I can do, or need to do?

GDS pal almost got it with the wheel bearing. The ABS sensor pickup is on the hub which is kept in place via the wheel brg.If brg. goes the ABS light comes on and there fore the noise. The ses light is another problem that most likely needs scoped out.

you have a bad hub bearing, (some call it a wheel bearing but front wheel drive cars dont have a wheel bearing, its a hub bearing as that is where the axle goes through the spindle. It is bad and therefore the axle is moving around. The axle on that car has a "notched ring" around it where it goes into the hub of the spindel. That ring has probally hit the ABS sending unit because it is sloppy. those cars are notorious for this. that is why the antillock light is on. The mechanic should have seen this as it would have been sloppy and something that would have been noticable. I would find a new mechanic as any real mechanic will tell you replacing the brakes will have NOTHING to do with that ABS light. ABS consists of a control module, computer and speed sensors on the wheel near the axle. They sense when the wheel locks up and then pulsates the brake fluid to allow the wheel to move instead of being locked up, therefore not allowing the car to slide.

My sister in law has a 2003 and when her service engine light came on. She had to take it to the dealer to have it shut off. my husband said it has something to do with hooking it to some computer to get it reset. my husband also said check your power steering fluid and just jack up the front end to look and see if anything loos out of place or broken

It must be something with the pontiac. My aunt had bought a brand new one and she had to bring it in 2 weeks after she bought it for repairs. Good luck with it.
