Hey everyone, my wife came home tonight, and I noticed it was very wet under her car, turns out to be oil, in looking the right side of the valve covers seem really wet with oil, and Oil is pooling up around the spark plugs. I think I need to replace the Valve Cover Gaskets, but I am not sure how to do this, the covers do not look like they are easy to get off.

Anyone ever do this?

Thanks
Mark

you need to take apart the whole timing, motor mount and crank pully..your best bet is to buy a haynes or chilton to guide you through it..it's not hard, just time consuming..

Does the 2.4L have a PCV? I cannot find anything that says it does or where it is located. I am curious if it could be blocked causing to much pressure.

Here is a picture of it.

No PCV, it uses a tube and an oil separator

yep no pcv! and it's almost impossible for those to clog..best bet is to do a upper rebuild on these motors since when you take the cam housings apart all you need to do is pull 10 bolts and the head is off..imo It's worth it since these motors are one of a kind..they last a long time great gas ect..

side note: if you do a upper rebuild, don't bother taking the head in to get rebuilt..it's way cheaper to get a rebuilt one from a parts store..If you do a upper rebuild pm me and I will give you tips on the best way to do it..

Next question then, my wife has had the car from day one, for the last couple of years it has started to burn a little oil, maybe 1/2 qt between oil changes.

2 weeks ago I put a QT of oil in, because I could not do an oil change in time, the car was not exactly level. Maybe I over filled it? Would the motor vent the oil?

it really depends on what type/wieght of oil and the temp where you live on these motors..most of the time it will not suck into the intake..but if your leaking oil then you will burn oil since you don't have enough in the motor to keep things lubed and cool..since lack of oil can cause over heating on the componets..I'm about 95% sure when the leaks stop the oil level and look will be just fine..and with these motors you could do a oil change every 5000 miles not 3000..

So far it looks like it was the Oil Sending unit streaming oil out like crazy, went and got a replacement, put it in, so far so good.
