my car acted up today check gauges came on then auto-theft then service light came on and my gauges dimmed every time i hit the brakes, after a new alternator is works for a while then throws those up again please help:(

Did you check to see if the new alternator is charging?
Did you have the battery recharged and load tested?
Did you check all the battery connections for corrosion?

did you have the computer code read? if so post the code.
Could also be caused by the gauge cluster failing.

Are the dash lights still dimming when you hit the brakes?

let me clarify you did have the new alternator tested correct? what voltage is it putting out?

I had the old one tested put it back in because it tested to be functional but it was still having problems

When people ask for help they normally include everything they have done to the car in the sequence things have been done.

We have asked several questions, the answers your giving us are generic and do not the answer to the specific questions we asked of you.

Now your telling us that you put the old alternator back on the car, when did this happen before or after your original post?

What about the codes in your computer? do you have any check MIL ( malfunction indicator lights ) on?

Explain in detail the current condition of your car, include what size engine you have as well.

Diagnosing a modern car is hard, to do this over the internet is extremely difficult and impossible if the questions we ask of you are not answered.

So help us help you. Start over. tell us everything that has happened to this car, what you have done and what the current condition is.

Include any and all symptoms, you cannot answer this is good and that is good without giving us the data to confirm your conclusion.

This should be a easy problem to fix, yet miscommunication will have you going round and round doing work that may or may not need to be done.
