...stall out? I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and whenever I excellerate to a higher rpm or take inclines my car starts to buck and slows down like it is trying to catch up then it starts to pick up again. It does not do it all the time and there are no engine lights so noone can diagonise it. The car has been tune up and filter change. Can someone help me out before it stalls outs completly" in Yahoo! Just because there isn't a check engine light on, doesn't mean it cant be properly diagnosed by a decent technician. They can still hook up the scanner and run a datastream and DIAGNOSE it for you.

If you have the 4cyl engine you could have carbon tracking on the spark plug towers in the ignition module (the cover on top of the engine) even with a tune up it will cause spark scatter and misfires that can cause "bucking" it will eventually get worse until it causes a check engine light to come on for a misfire, that would be my guess as to what is going on .

I am having the same problem as LaVerne J, but mine doesn't slow down, on incline, you can just see RPMs going up and down and feel a little surging. Mechanics have told me anything from sensors to transmission, but they are guessing. I have put it on a machine and all it said was emission control system malfunction. Did you finally get it fixed?

Goatman if their is "carbon tracking on the spark plug towers" how do I fix that?

Oh yeah when my husband was testing the map sensor at wide open throttle the enging surged really bad at around 3000 RPM and up, took it out on the road and at 3000 to 4000 RPMs no problems

Today I took my GA to another repair person and got the final answer on the problem, it is the transmission, the torque converter is going out, bad news for us.
