I bought my car a year and a half ago and the cruise control worked great. A month later I would push the button and it wouldn't work the first time and then it would engage a second. Then about 4 months later the cruise control would take many times to engage and randomly turn off within 30 minutes of it working. Now it has gotten to a point where it doesn't work at all. The button on my steering wheel works and turns on and off however the light on the dash doesn't show up. I've also noticed my car shakes pretty bad when in idle. While my car is in gear at a stop of when I'm sitting in the driveway with it in gear it shakes really bad. You can feel it in the steering wheel and on the interior. I don't know if the shaking is related to the cruise control or not but I figure it could be a vacuum hose. I recently put on a new ignition coil, new plugs, new wires, a new crankshaft position sensor, and a new camshaft position sensor. I also checked my cruise control fuse and it is good. When I was getting a tune up my brother checked each cylinder and they sounded good too. Any suggestions would help a lot, Thanks!

do you have a check engine light on?
what do you mean your brother checked each cylinder, what exactly did he do? A compression test?
have you cleaned the IAC, idle air control?
concerning the cruise control, do you have any warnings lights displaying on the dash?
have you checked the switch located at the brake pedal, disconnected, broken wire, etc.?
are all your brake lights working?
are you aware that there are three fuses for the cruise control system?

I have no warning lights on my dashboard. My brother did a compression test on each cylinder. I haven't cleaned the IAC but that will be my next step. I haven't checked the switch either but I will try that too. All my lights work and I am almost positive I have checked all fuses but I can double check that too. Thanks for the response

Funny you mentioned the IAC. While I was checking the battery connectors I decided to go ahead and clean the IAC. After the cleaning, the car began to jerk when put in drive and would jerk when switching gears while driving. After driving it for about 30 minutes, it stopped jerking. So, it's back to normal now. Just thought you should know in case you ran into similar symptoms.
