2002 nonstarter

I have a 2002 sunfire which was running fine with no noises. It sat for 3 weeks. Went to start it and it cranks but will not start. Someone said the lines were dry and to try turning on the key for 5 seconds 3-5 times. Don’t know if this was a valid suggestion but I tried it and did not work. It was running good. Can parts go bad just by sitting? Knucklehead novice.

When you turn the key to the run position do you hear the fuel pump run in the gas tank for a few seconds?

Yes, that noise gave me encouragement. Then my hopes were cruelly dashed. Thanks for the reply.

Have you done a fuel pressure test and checked for spark?
