Had been noticing a slight delay in acceleration over the past week or so but never anything drastic. Basically on my drive home from school all of a sudden the accelerator no longer was giving the engine fuel I guess. Could no longer accelerate and once the car came to a stop it quickly stalled out and could not be restarted. I was thinking it would most likely be a fuel injector problem or something along those lines but I truly know next to nothing about cars so any help would be immensely appreciated.

sounds like a clogged filter, failed pump etc.

thanks for advice, it was indeed a failed pump. I'm confident my initial conversation with the mechanic kept them from crushing me with the cost. This is completely due to this forum so once again thank you for your suggestions and knowledge.

Another thing to consider is the battery, we had an issue with the ground disconnecting which caused the same effect.
