I went to put a pressure gauge on the big port on the AC line ( the one you would use to charge the system if you bought a refill can ) the pressure spiked up very high. i then pluged the electrical connection back in to the compressor and started my car. when i turned the AC on it staled the car. What could cause this to happen ? can it be cheap to fix or do i got melt in my car the rest of this summer for i have no more money then my toddler son dose.

A little back round info. I just bought the car about 4 months ago. never got around to fixing the AC till recently. it has about 160K on it. Inline 4 automatic 2.2 L.

Thanks in advance

If it's hot out and the A/C has not been run for a while - the low-side pressure may be 100psi or above.

The compressor stalling the vehicle is not normal. Could be any of many causes - failed compressor, too much freon in the system, engine idle control problem, etc.

Difficult to troubleshoot online without more info. Suggest that if you're not sure what you're doing with A/C - get a professional opinion. The high pressures and extreme temperatures involved with this system can damage equipment and people - making the costs of professional services relatively cheap in the end.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
