I recently brought a 2002 pontiac sunfire with 135,xxx miles on it. I had it checked over by my family member and they had mixed green coolant with dex cool. I am 50/50 on the whole "dont mix dexcool with anything other than its self" so many different opinions. This past weekend I drove 70 miles and as i was pulling up to my friend's house the temp gauge shot up and check guage light came on. It however, didnt smoke or shut off so i was saved! thank god! I had my friend look at it the next morning and apparently the previous owner severly neglected the cooling system in this car. I have since ran 2 radiator cleaners thru it, replaced the top hose, and the thermostat. I am losing coolant like crazy! lastnite i filled it up and within 9 hrs i woke up checked it again and just about everything i put in lastnite was gone! I am at my whits end! I need a solution asap as I am a 21 year old student and I dont have $$$ to keep throwing away.. i have read up on forums and I can definatly say it isnt mixing oil nor is my oil milky or anything and I've also bled the system to get the air out of it.. the smell of this stuff is horrible. it smells like old vinegar mixed with a rusty smell.. enough to turn your stomach. i am taking it to my dad in a couple days to see if its the water pump but im also thinking that whatever the issue is, it is forcing the coolant out of the reservior on the overfill tank. so here i am reaching out to the yahoo community.. someone pls help!
