2002 sunfire ingition stuck on start wont turn off urgent

I have a 2002 sunfire the cant move the key out of the on position . i got a new lock cylinder but cant install it because its wont slide into position .since i cant turn the key back. And cant install ignition switch either since it wont move from the on position. Steering is not locked.

You can try either an automotive locksmith or drilling the old one out. Found this link which may help.

The old cylinder is out . cant instert the new cylinder barrell inside wont move into position

In the housing . it is stuck in the on position.

so you cannt turn the switch with a screwdriver in order to insert the new cylinder or is something else preventing inserting the new cylinder?
how did you remove the old cylinder?

Cant turn the housing with a screwdriver
Its stuck in the start position . it wont allow the new cylinder to pop in place.
I removed the old cylinder by pressing the button

the start position or the run position.
if the run position the cylinder should just slide in
