Do not know a lot about cars so bear with me here.

2002 Sunfire GT 66,500

This has been happening for the past few years sporadically, but becoming more frequent. I figure I will have to go to the dealer but that can be very expensive so I thought I would ask here. One of these situations will occur randomly.

1. trac off light on, car jerks into gear while shifting
2. trac off light on, check eng light on, jerks into gear while shifting
3.trac off light on, check eng light on, jerks into gear while shifting, car stalls

I cannot make it happen. have replaced throttle sensor in the last few years, did not help. I think it may have a bad wheel bearing since it is making an odd noise coming from the wheel. Could a wheel bearing cause all of this? My wife wants to get rid of the car since no local shops can figure it out. Thoughts?

have you taken it to a local auto parts store such as autozone that do free computer code checks when the check engine light is on?

Personally, no I have not. I assumed the few garages in the past few years would have.

Ill drop by autozone tonight myself. It is driving me nuts

Went to autozone last night. The only code they saw was P0122. They gave me a printout saying that the throttle position sensor is bad. Here is the thing tho, I have been down the TPS road before.

In an effort to fix this problem over a year ago I had that replaced and it did not fix the issue.

Could the new one have gone bad so fast? How does the throttle sensor make it say trac off and "hard shift".

Let us know the results, thanks.

Sorry for the delay

Well the sensor passed the test, and it has not happened for over a week or so. Although I know it will again. *Sigh*:(

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaack

Last two mornings in a row I went outside at 730 am and it has been back. Trac off and check engine. Awesome:mad:

Hey I'm new to the forum but I have a 99 sunfire gt with a supercharger. Your problem is coming from the ait sensor in the intake. Remove it and either repace it of clean it with some electronics spray. Reset your cel and you should be fine. Also check the wiring for the ait for breaks.

I'm having a similar problem since replacing the head gasket. My check engine light is for low voltage to the cam & MAP sensor. no clue on the hard shift and I'm assuming the trac off light is because the rear brakes might be seized (rust, been sitting for awhile).

Was this ever resolved? I am having same problem. Only experienced it after replacing a vacuum line, and cleaning the IAC. Now getting TC light on, and low voltage TPS fault code (P0122). What is solution? I replaced the TPS. Do I need to repalce the IAC? Did I damage it when cleaning it?

your posting onto a thread from 2011 without giving any information about the year of your car. So i can only recommend follow the possible causes and solutions on this site.
