2003 Aztek Starting/Shift Problems

Having intermittent problems starting the car. Shifter locks into park, the car will not let go of the key, sometimes disconnecting the battery to reset the BCM seems to work, however at other times relising the shifter from park and cycling through the gears works. In both cases now the car will not let go of the shifter at all even when running, so I have to release the shifter from park and then go.

Found this thread on an 2002 pontiac aztek will not move out of park? and I was thinking that the lose wiring seemed most likely....

Fixed Starting Problem

After a bit of research I decided it was the Park/Neutral Safety Switch on the transmission and its communication with the BCM. I removed the air filter manifold and found some frayed wires leading from the safety switch to the BCM harness..quick wire repair and I haven't had any trouble with that problem since.
