I was driving my car tonight and the engine started to dog and lose power, kind of like if your running out of gas. When I got to the side of the road I heard what I think is the fuel pump making a thudding noise and then all of a sudden it quit. I'm going to check all this but what I want to know is if I have to change the whole sending unit or can I just replace the pump itself.

Also can anyone refer me on the most easy way possible? Thankfull my tank is almost empty with the low fuel light on and no the tank is not empty.

Also I noticed when I would first start the car in the morning sometimes it would dog on me, I'm guessing this might also be fuel related too, so I guess I'll find out.

I have a 2003 GA SE2 V6, and the same thing happened to me last week. I just got the car and it was under warranty so I took it back to the dealer.

I was on my lunch break from work and the gas light had been on for maybe 10 miles. I heard that when the light comes on, you have about 2 gallons till its dry. I'm not sure how much truth there is to that but anyway...
I filled up and drove about 2 miles back to the office and everything was fine. I left work a couple hours later and strted the car. I went in reverse out of my parking spot and it started to sputter like it wasnt getting gas, but I had a full tank. I started to drive and I would give it gas and it would choke and the rpms would plunge and then come back up, but it was acting like it was not getting gas. I kept driving it and got to the interstate and it started to run kinda normal but had a huge loss of power. I took it to the dealer and the diagnostic device said "Fule Lean". The mechanic said that he had to replace the O2 sensor and reprogram the ECM. He also said that the fuel filter needed to be replaced which I have to do myself because the warranty didnt cover that. My question in another thread was where is the fuel filter located cause I couldnt find it, and if anybody else had exprience changing the fuel filter in an '03 GA SE2 V6.

It sounds like you had the same problem I had. Check the O2 sensor and the fuel filter.

* Did your "Service Engine" light come on???

I have an '02 GA GT, and I've run mine about 35 hwy miles with the idiot light on without it running out of gas. After putting around 13.5 gal in it to top it off, my guess is that the "low fuel" light comes on when there is about 2 gal left in the tank.
