I was driving my car down the road and it felt like I ran out of gas. I pulled into a parking lot and the engine died and will not start. What is the best way to determine the cause and what can the problem be? Im trying not to take it into the shop because they charge you an arm and a leg just to find the problem and after reading most of the posts on this site it seems the mechanics dont find the problem the first time. Any suggestions?

It is the coil packs. I had the same thing happen the other day. It is very easy to change your self. If you have any questions or need some help email me at Dewitt_88@hotmail.com

Happened to me

It happened in my 01 Grand Am, I was driving and it acted just like I ran out of fuel,I coasted in a parking lot and it wouldn't start back up,it just cranked. I toke it to the dealer and after they run the computer on it it was the fuel pump. They charged me 60 buck to tell me what was wrong with it and wanted to charge me 750 to repair it. Me and a few friends changed it ourself for the price of an AC delco pump which is $326 hell of alot cheaper then the dealer

Thanks for all the feedback. I just had a buddy come over and help me trouble shoot my car. He has a code scanner and it came up with 0 codes. He checked the engine for fuel while I cranked the motor over and there wasnt any fuel. Unless something else is preventing the fuel pump from working I think Im going to swap out the pump. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Car dies

Check the pas lock system- first!! Was the security light on??
A loose key can cause the passlock system to shut off the fuel!!

it's the ignition

my 2002 did the same thing and it's the ignition module.....at least $417....you have to take it to the pontiac dealer cuz they have to recode your keyless entry too...sorry!!
