Have 2003 Pontiac grand am. Last January wouldn't crank one day replaced fuel pump. Still no crank replaced ignition switch ran for a couple months. Done it again replaced switch ran a couple months quit again wont start, replaced battery and ignitions switch again about 2 months or so down again This time bypassed switch with resistor per internet done reset but light wont go off and wont crank light sometimes goes off but still will not crank added
ether to see if fuel wont crank can anyone help

what light wont go off? Are you saying nothing happens when you turn the key or the engine cranks and wont ignite? Is your battery dead, check it with a voltmeter. If it does crank have you done a fuel pressure test, ether will not start the car with no or low fuel pressure.

The post is a bit confusing. I agree with mel. You are replacing a lot when was the last full tune up? or Fuel filter at least

its GM keylock security system which is a pain in the ass and i know about the resister bypass your talking about. When i bypassed mine it worked and still works today. a friend of mine wasnt so lucky with his at first. but after troubleshooting it together i discovered he wasnt as patient as me and his resister connections were not up to par. once we redid the bypass properly it worked fine. Only you know if you did the connections properly or if possibly frustration won over you possibly not doing it right.

Good Luck.

pontiac grand am starting problems

finally got it fixed went to local dealerships they started replacing parts work for awhile then quit again replaced fuelpump, didn't need too replaced ignition switch 3 times didn't help finally went to local garage mechanic said was switch again done resister bypass that cleared codes but still would not start. told me it was weak battery losing voltage to computer bought new battery didn't fix it wanted to replace bcm didn't let him looked through craigslist and found guy who specialized in diagnostics and troubleshooting electronics guaranteed to fix it or no charge took it to him and he called next day had it fixed it turned out to be short in ignition switch housing so if you replace switch replace housing too he replaced it with new one ,no more problems my advice is to take it to someone who will actually troubleshoot and run down problems the dealership was the worst for just guessing and replacing parts more money for them

grand am starting problems and passlock

the tech explained to me that the ignition switch reads the build in resister in the key lock cyl and this is sent to computer if it reads correct signal then it send signal to bcm ,fuel pump and ignition models to work any short or bad signal to computer will trigger the passlock the resister bypass between the black wire and the yellow wire on my 2003 grand am works and takes that out of the equation but the switch housing still has to send a voltage signal to computer and if housing is bad or connections are corroded then still will not work. the tech that worked on mine said that dealerships can troubleshoot and track down problems but they just read codes and replace parts more profitable. the trouble with that method is that the computer stores codes and low , no or incorrect voltage can make unrelated codes show up that doesn't pertain to the real problem so good luck on your grand am
