...Montana? I am thinking about buying a 2003 Pontiac Montana mini-van (not the extended version) but it has 108,000 miles on it and they are asking 9,800 dollars which seems a little steep for the milage in my opinion. I have tried to negoiate the price down but the dealer won't budge, he keeps telling me that the price is great for a van that is built to last and that I have no idea what a great deal I am about to pass up (what else would you expect a salesman to say) I just want to get some other opinions because I don't know anything when it comes to cars and I really don't want to be taken advantage of but I don't want to pass up a good deal either.

(It doesn't have the remote sliding door, dvd system or leather seats..it is the basic model.)

Initial thought - thumbs down.

Check out the following sites to get an idea:
www.kbb.com
www.edmunds.com
www.nadaguides.com
Keep in mind that, IMO, these tend to come in a bit on the high side as far as estimated values. Just did a quick look on kbb.com - they're suggesting about $6,000 private party value. Sounds like a ream-job proposed by the dealer.

Lot of miles on it, with 108,000 miles, just how long is this dealer willing to warrant "a van that is built to last"? Will he throw in an extended warranty package at no cost? (the markup on these packages is unbelievable, so don't belive what he tells you it costs - his cost is probably about 1/3 to 1/2 of retail value)

Again, IMO, the auto market is slowing way down - suggest there are better deals to be had out there.

By your username, I suspect the dealer may be trying to maximize his profit by dealing with a gender known for buying with the heart instead of the head.
