2003 sunfire auto floor shift indicator wont move

2003 sunfire auto floor shift indicator wont move any ideas what could be wrong with it? still drives and everything just does not say what gear you are in

You have to disassemble the shifter assembly to determine what is involved in repairing it

so that would mean removing the center console?? how does the indicator move is it on a cable with the shifter it self or just a tab thats attached to the shifter?

the mechanism inself seems to be a sealed component which you may be able to open, doubt it uses a cable and hopefully you can see the image on the left side of this link
