I have a 2003 sunfire just recently when the weather turned cold I hear a rattling on the passenger side until the car warms up can someone please tell me what this is?

it could be the timing chain and tensioner starting to wear. Is your oil level at maximum? You could try a 10W30 oil. How many miles on the engine?

There are 176,000 it only does it when car is cold after it warms up its fine

someone told me it may be the oil pump

The oil pressure will drop as the engine warms up. Doesn't sound like an oil pump to me.

How can I tell if my timing chain is about to go other than this

did you try the bottle of STP to raise the cold oil pressure? You can tell by using a rubber hose holding one end against your ear and the other end against the timing chain cover to pinpoint the source of the noise.
