After filling with gas,car will not start.Cranks fine ! The only way to get it to start is to pump gas pedal!!After that it runs fine!Any ideas? Thanks

well pumping the pedal on a fuel injected engine does nothing, hard start problems=low fuel pressure, bad plugs, not enough air..idle air control or a timing issue=crank shaft or camshaft sensor.

Do you have a check engine light?

no.This only happens when you shut the car off,put gas in it and then try to restart it.It sounds as if the throttle position sensor might be causing it!

how low do you let the gas gauge go before refilling?

It doesn't seem to matter.I put 6.5 gal. it yesterday.I thought my daughter was crazy til it happen to me!

We replaced fuel pump 1.5 years ago.It doesn't have any problems till you put gas it again!!

I know it's not too specific an answer but it sounds like it's related to the evaporative emissions control system. I know you have no check engine light but I would have a code scan anyway. Have you tried not filling the car completely? There is a vapor seperator and a purge valve and I'm wondering if raw gas is getting into the vapor seperator.

I filled it up yesterday. thanks for your input!!!I'll have them check for codes!!!

The check engine light came on last night.Had it checked at Advance Auto, code was p1441

They hopefully told you there is a problem with the Evaporative Control System?
P1441= EVAP canister continuous open purge flow or high voltage during non-purge.

Here is a basic write up of how the system works

Replace the EVAP purge solenoid and valve.

I changed the purge tank soleniod valve. My daughter has put gas in it twice. She's had no problem starting or hesitating! Thanks so much for your help!!!!But why does that have anything to do with it starting? Thanks again for your input!!!!

I would think if the valve would be stuck in the open position, combined with a full tank of gas, it might cause a very rich mixture since it may actually be pulling liquid gas as opposed to vapor, just a guess.
