2004 New radio install switched power wire

When I try to connect a new Alpine stereo I can not find the wire to use for the iginition switched power. This wire is usually red in color.

What can I do to get this fixed ?

If the Montana is like my Malibu I had, there is no switched wire. There is just one power wire. I believe it is this way. What the guy did that installed my radio is connect the constant and switched wire to the one powered wire from the harness it self. The radio itself is controlled by the body control module. This is how is stayed on for 10 minutes or until you opened your door in the stock radio. The radio will stay powered 100% of the time so to turn it off, you have to manually turn it off or take the face off.

That explanation makes sense cause you can hit the recall button anytime and it will display the time and also you can eject a tape or cd.
expson : I would guess you can find a switched hot down in the fuse panel rather easley plus you don't have to stand on your head the fuse panel is on the right side of the dash.Good luck and what kind of unit are you installing ? Any pics?

Should I just connect the red and yellow wires to the 12V constant power?

I would like to run the switched wire but I really don't know where to run it. The fuse box I could but where do you connect it to.

That is up to you if you want to connect the switched and the constant wire or not. I did it for years with no problem in my Malibu. Someone suggested to me to do the same thing with the fuse box, but I didn't. You will also need the chime box harness also. All the chimes are generated through the stock radio.
 
expson: with a volt meter find a spare fuse slot that has 12 volts when the key is in the on or accessory position and 0 volts when the key is off and doors opened . If I get a chance I will try to find one on my 03 tonight and post it later but I have a busy night already .

Where did you get the chime box harness ? Is it like a regular harness for the cables.
 
expson : do you have steering wheel controls ? Are you going to incorporate that into your install ?

I think I got the radio harness that came with the chime box from Walmart.
 
well my son and I went out to try and find a switched 12v fuse for ya but could not find one all we could find was a constant 12. That stinks I guess things changed since a few years back.I see now what terrenatian was talking about how the power goes through the bcm .I would think that if you find thart power wire coming from the bcm it would be the one you want providing it can supply the current and its just not a digital input or a data wire ??? again good luck and keep us posted.
 
I will need to get the harness with the door chime since this model of montana runs alot of things through the radio. They don't make it simple to do anything on a car/van anymore.
