Hey, all. Looking to get wife's car fixed. I'm more of a motorcycle guy, but I try my best with cars *shrugs* Her car is a 2004 Sunfire with 178K mi.

Anyway, her car just up and will no longer start up. Thankfully this happened in the garage (and she was able to take my car to work instead!) It will crank and crank, but nadda! Here's what I see to this point:

-Battery is good (12.8v idle, 11.4v cranking)
-We have spark on all cyl's
-Tested schrader valve and fuel shoots out
-No Passlock light on dash; lights seem as they should
-Little bit of brown foamy gunk in intake snorkel (I can assume that is moisture combined with EGR residue?)
-Haven't checked starter/solenoid yet. Contacts look corroded, but she turns everytime I turn the key, so.......
-Compression on cyl's is around 65-80psi. I know that's low, but was also told it's inaccurate, due to how cold the motor is (especially up here in OH in winter!)

Now, we got back from a 1800mi. trip down south, and I changed oil/filter before trip. Never checked oil, just assumed all was well, cause no low oil light ever registered. Well, when I went to look at the car after not starting, it wasn't even on the dipstick. In fact, I had to add THREE quarts to bring it back to level!! Ugh! This scares me, cause I fear we may have cooked the rings or valve seats? Somehow I find it hard to believe since this no-start issue is all-the-sudden, and there's never been blue or white smoke out the exhaust, nor any "burning" smell. Never any gradual loss of power, either. Never overheated either, and coolant level is fine. Wife said it rode just fine, and she's pretty keen on what her car does/sounds it makes.

Any ideas?

Gas shooting out shrader valve is not a good indication of fuel pressure, you need to test with a gauge. I also can not believe those are acceptable compression readings. If you drove the engine with 3 quarts low, wonder if the low oil pressure caused the chain tensioner to allow the chain to skip.
