My stepdaughter's 2004 Sunfire decides at random intervals to just not start. It turns over and after sitting for awhile it will usually get over it and start. We have had it in the shop (of course it never acts up for the mechanic) and my husband has replaced the fuel filter, ignition control module, crank sensor, fuel pump relay, battery, and had a new key made for it.

You can hear the fuel pump working when the key is turned on and once it has started after balking for an eternity, it runs great! No code lights, no any kind of lights appear on the dash. Occasionally it will die at a stop light, but this is rare.

Please help, he is ready to drive the thing over a cliff!

Assuming you never have a check engine light or a security light try replacing the ignition switch.

Thank you. Is there any chance it could be pass code cylinder (next part to try-already purchased)?

Only if you have the security light on

My husband replaced the passcode cylinder; now can't get the relearn process to work. Flashing security light never stops flashing. Any ideas?

did he leave they key on the run position for 10 minutes, then turn it off and try to start?

Yes. The car starts but dies and the light flashes, sometimes it does not start and the light remains steady. The light never goes out.

Install the old part and do the relearn process again to see if the new part is defective

The new part was apparently defective. Put the old part back in and the car started with no relearn necessary. He got his money back so will try replacing the ignition switch.

Update

Replaced ignition switch shortly after last post; no starting issues since!

Thank You!

glad to hear you got it fixed
