2005 pontiac montana keyless remote help

Hi all,

New here to this forum (but not new to forums in general) asking a question for a friend of mine.

She needs a new RKE fob for her 2005 pontiac montana. It has remote start and 2 sliding doors. 6 buttons in total.

Im looking at purchasing one of these

I have read online how to do the programming from here

But I have also read that this procedure does NOT work and you HAVE to go to the dealer. Id like to do the programming myself for free. Since I am getting conflicting answers, id like to ask some of you pros what the real answer is.

Did you look in the owners manual. if you dont have one google "pontiac montana owners manual 2005" you will find a site with a PDF version.

No I have not looked in the manual yet because im at work and dont have access to the vehicle. I will try google.

go to page 105 and it says you must take it to the dealer.
go to page 106 and it says when you add a new battery you have to press and hold the lock and unlock buttons for 7 seconds to synchronize the remote. GM electronics are way to weird for me sometimes.

Maybe I can enter programming mode, then press and hold for 7 seconds to synchronize and it will work IDK

It clearly states take it to the dealer for a new transmitter but you have nothing to lose trying the programming mode instructions.

Well, I called the local GM dealer and they only want 35 dollars to reprogram a remote. Not too bad of a price.

They originally wanted 180 for a new remote and to program.

27+35= $62 which is much better.

On my Ford Crown Vic, all I do is buy a new remote on ebay for like 12 bucks, turn the key from off to run 4 times, lock will cycle, then press any button on the remote, locks will cycle, wait 20 seconds, test, done.

Only if GM was this easy
