Hello all,
I am new to the site so I wanted to introduce myself but I have a big issue with my car. In early December I noticed that when idle, my car would not heat up past the first major marking on the temperature gauge (between 100 and 195) unless I was driving. I took it to 1 shop and they originally said that it was the thermostat. About 20 days later it was doing the exact same thing and when I brought it in they just did a warranty replacement and also replaced the radiator cap. That didn't work either, at least for long, and I ended up bringing it back a third time. This time when they "diagnosed" the issue they said it was the water pump. When they "fixed" this it seemed to work fine but I had this whining noise now coming from the area in the engine back near the water pump. I expressed my concerns and they said that it wasn't anything to be worried about and that they used all of the tools to remove and replace the water pump correctly.
Since I was still worried about it and now didn't trust anyone at that shop further than I could throw them I went to a different shop, closer to my work, that a co-worker recommended. They looked into the whining issue and also replaced the water pump. After all of that they still didn't know where the whining was coming from but I had good heat.
I just let my car warm up since it hadn't moved all weekend, pretty normal for me, and noticed that the same issue of not warming up was happening. I left it running for over 45 minutes and it only heated up to the first major marking (between the 100 and 195 marks). Has anyone else had this happen to them and, if so, what was the issue? I don't trust any mechanic shop now since 2 different shops looked at the issues and obviously they can't fix this problem by themselves.
Also, I am from Minnesota so not having heat is kind of a big issue.
Thank you.
