Hi again.
Recently I found that our Montana consumes oil pretty fast. No leaks. It is time to change and oil level quarter inch below minimum. Last time they put Castrol GTX high mileage...
Some folks say that those engines burn oil and this is a norm.
Shall I add some engine oil stabilizer for high mileage (Lucas) to reduce oil consumption? Or just add the oil occasionally? Or try thicker oil?

Cheers,
Michael

keep the recommend oil in your engine based on ambient temperature found in your owner manual.

Your engine just needs to be looked after more often with the high mileage. from where I am sitting if you went 3K or more on this oil change, the engine is not consuming an excessive amount of oil compared to the mileage.

If your adding a quart of oil each time your getting into the car, and the back of the car is coated with soot and carbon and oil from the engine burning oil and sending un burnt oil out the exhaust then you have a problem.

If what you say is true and it was just below minimum after waiting on the oil change light to come on I would say your in good shape, just keep a better eye on the levels.

Dunno. We had Active Green and Ross (it is a car repair chain) to change oil, they suggested 'high mileage' and we agreed. I believe it is 5w30, that is what recommended by GM.

Thanks for the tip. One quick question, 10w40 or 5w40? I am in Toronto, so we have winters here sometimes. I understood that 5w is the lowest temperature and 30 or 40 is viscosity under operation temperature. So 5w40 seems more logical...

Hi !
I have 380K km
Here in Russia (Moscow), the winter temperature happens from a - 20C to - 30C
In summer the average temperature is + 25 ° C
I pour oil GM 5w30 dexos2

from your Owners manual

If you are in an area of extreme cold, where the
temperature falls below −20°F (−29°C), it is
recommended that you use either an SAE 5W-30
synthetic oil or an SAE 0W-30 oil. Both will provide
easier cold starting and better protection for your engine
at extremely low temperatures.
