2006 Pontiac Torrent, FWD 141K; Rear tire cupping

I had noise and thumping from rear of vehicle; thought it was wheel bearings - it wasn't. Replaced both rear wheel bearing and hub assemblies, about $250 total, but didn't actually need replacing (I had replaced them only a relatively short while back, maybe a year). So, discovered that it was the rear tire cupping instead. Question: I never replaced the rear shocks (already replaced the front strut units and they're fine). So, will replacing the rear shocks solve the rear tire cupping?

tire cupping is caused by one or more of the following
  • Worn shock absorbers or suspension parts
  • Wheel misalignment
  • Tire imbalance or runout
  • Poor quality of tires.
