Hello,

I have a 2007 Montana SV6 (Canada) with OnStar (not used) and no read DVD. I had a new head unit installed about 4 years ago. Everything was working fine until the other day I came out and the battery was completely dead. Charged the battery and the van started up and was fine until later that day, the van would not do anything until I pulled the 20A Radio Fuse, once that was done, the van fired right up.

I dove into the dash and removed everything that was installed and installed the stock radio, put the fuse back in and have not had any issues since.

I decided to put the aftermarket unit back in just to see what happens, the van starts up and everything is working but as soon as I shut the van off and open the doors, the radio does not turn off. I suspect this is what happened the other day that killed the battery.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Would doing a firmware update on the axxess gmos-01 module fix this? I contacted them and they said to just initialize the module and it will be fine and to do that was to start van, play stock radio, shut van off and remove keys, when dome light goes out, remove stock radio, put in aftermarket, turn key to ON for 30 seconds, then turn OFF then back ON. I did this and still have the same issue. They were not really helpful.

If not, is my only option to buy a new module? If I don't care about Onstar or door chimes, can I just wire up the headunit and run the red off the HU to an add-a-circuit in the fuse box? I know I would lose RAP but I don't really care about that. If so, does anyone know what fuse would be switched in the fuse block or maybe there is one with RAP to retain that even though I am not concerned about it?

Thanks.

Based upon what you are saying it worked for 4 years and now has failed. To initialize this module they told you to reinstall the stock radio but what about the module, leave that in with the stock radio so that it senses RAP power going down? Replace it with another module of your choice or do you have a fuse labeled for the dome light?

As far as I can tell you can't have both the module and the stock radio in at the same time. What I posted before is what they told me to do, after shutting the van off and removing the keys, don't open any doors and re-install the aftermarket radio with module then do the key sequence. I am not sure I have a fuse labelled for the dome light, what would that do? The dome light is not a switched source as it comes on when opening doors etc...right?

yes but the fuse should be powered until rap shuts it down in theory

I have attached a picture I found of the fuse panel. I don't see one for the dome lights. I would guess the dome lights are powered at all times as you open the doors and the dome lights come on? I was thinking maybe the 10amp ONSTAR fuse, that would be switched as well as RAP would it not? I will have to test if I shut the van off and if I can call onstar with the keys out during the RAP period. I don't think onstar works if the van is off.
