2008 Prix Transmission

So, I drive to a gas station, pick up a couple of things. Come back to my car and find that it has rolled back out of the space while in Park. I am able to start the car but the shifter will not engage any gear forward or reverse. I had no prior warning of transmission slippage or any other kind of symptom. Any advice would be welcome and thanks!

check for a broken shift cable

this one i'll have to agree with the other poster. more than likely the shifter cable has either broken internally or possibly where it connects to the shifter. the easiest way to tell if it's the cable or something more serious is to look at the shifter linkage on the transmission. put your ebrake on and leave the car off but shift it from park all the way to D and look at the linkage again if it has moved then it's internal on the transmission not the cable at that point. Then obviously if it doesn't move a new shifter cable will be needing to be put in
