I found the issue with mine & thought I'd let the rest of you know how I fixed it.
A little while after I'd start driving my GXP, I would hear and feel an errrr errrr noise telegraphing up the steering column when turning the steering wheel. I had the rack & pinion (R&P) replaced one time & the noise came back after a few years.
I always suspected the seal where the steering shaft comes out of the R&P housing. So I removed the left wheel & pulled the protective boot up and off the R&P housing & up the steering shaft a bit. Then sprayed the area and seal below with PB Blaster & reseated the boot. Noise is gone! Whenever I feel or hear it coming back, I repeat the process. Lot cheaper than replacing the R&P. Seems to last about a year.
I still love my GXP & GM made big mistake getting rid of the Pontiac brand.
