2009 gxp steering issue/noise

My wife 2009 torrent gxp makes a noise when turning. The best way to describe it is almost like a servo noise. The car also seems fairly hard to turn, but that could be that I'm just not used to driving it. The car does not get driven much and only has 9900 miles on it. I checked to fluid and it is full.

If your vehicle is equipped with variable effort steering the noise may be from the motor espcially if the problem is only at low speeds or when stationary. Other causes could be the pump or the rack.

Yes it seems to be at low speeds or stopped....Can I assume new power steering pump to fix or any other suggestions?

Looking at your owners manual it seems you have the 3.6 engine which is hydraulic steering. It is possible it's the pump. Have you tried having someone turn the wheel while you listen under the hood to find the source of the noise.

The noise sounds like it is coming from the steering wheel/ dash.

Also any one else will a gxp. How difficult is it to turn the wheel. I don't drive the car often so just wondering if the steering is normally tight.

I have a08 gxp and i have had the same issue. I took it to dealership and they poor a new rack in last oct .they told me it's the rack and there was a Kit they could put on to fix it but they also told me the kits were garbage so don't let a dealership put a Kit on to fix it. Now it's doing it again and i am taking it in because they put a gm rack in and it's junk. Because they put a gm rack in it has a1 year parts and labour so getting another in. You will notice it more when you park your car as that's when mine did it. It is like a whining sound coming from where the tilt wheel is
