My daughter has a 2001 Grand Am GT, with the 3.3 litre V6 engine.
The other day she mentioned to me that the check engine light was on.
I did a scan on it, and it said coolant below the sensor.
I opened the overflow tank to add antifreeze, but it was full.
There was oil in the tank, and when I stuck my finger in it, it came out full of oil.
I checked the oil, and it was down, but there was no antifreeze on the dip stick.
The car does not smoke, nor does the antifreeze tank bubble, inticating a possible head gasket.
I know these engines are prone to intake gaskets (lower) going out, but would like to be sure this is what is happening.
Has anyone else experienced this, and what was your problem.
She also mentioned that the Security light on the dash is on.
The car starts and runs, but it is bugging her.
There are times she tries to start the car, and there is nothing. She does know how to deactivate the security,
so it will start.
This happens periodicaly.
Anyone got a clue on one or both of these problems?
Would appreciate any advice.
