I have a 1979 Firebird Esprit. It has a 301 V8 with a single 4 barrel carburator. I want to upgrade it and put in a new intake manifold to support dual 4 barrel carburators.

My question is, what else should i upgrade in addition to this?

My friend said that i need to do something to the pistons and cam shafts because the upgrade will be putting so much more fuel and power into the block.

Any thoughts or comments or tips will be appriciated thank you

the only reason anybody puts dual 4 barrels on is to feed a very large modified engine. Examples from the past would be a Pontiac 389 or 421, A Chevy 427, a Chrysler 426, etc. The Pontiac 301 will perform like a dog with dual 4 barrels. It is not large enough nor has the proper intake, heads, cam etc to support such a set up. Go to a website like www.holley.com/Index.asp?division=Holley. They have information that will let you upgrade to a more performance oriented single 4 barrel

Go get yourself an edelbrock performer EPS intake manifold and a 600 or 650 CFM edelbrock performer carb you'll notice a huge difference. Headers and exhaust would also be a big improvement. to run 2 4brl carbs you'd need some serious demand for fuel/air.

I have a 350 turning out 400HP and im not even close to needing 2 4's on mine.

The Beach Boys released a song in 1963 called No-Go Showboat about a really cool looking car until you stepped on the gas. Thats what a 301 with dual fours would be.
