the serial number or engine code and the year. How did you order a clutch kit without knowing the engine?

1979 Trans Am Chevy 305

1979 Trans Am Pontiac 301 ( 400 shown but the same )

5th letter of the Vin is the engine code.

Both are painted "GM Blue" in color.

Chevy has the alternater on the passenger side , Pontiac on the drivers side.

Pontiac has a "open spaced intake manifold" with tin shield under it.

Need a pic to tell or an Intake casting number.

i called a guy and he said it was a 4.9 but on registration doc it has 5.0 its for ordering parts and i was on a site called rock autos looking at headers for a 4.9 none listed but were listed for the 5.0 and they looked the same so i just want to know for sure if it is a 4.9 will take a pic dont want to fit the wrong clutch kit

They make headers for both motors in the TA.

Any Pontiac Firebird TA header for a 326-455 will fit , just one bolt wont line up.

Hooker makes exact 301 headers but they are pricey! ( $700 US dollar range)

Any Camaro Small Block 265 -400 header will fit if its the 305.
