Ok here's my problem I have a 1984 trans am that used to have a 305 with a t5 trans it took a dump so I found a 1979 Camaro 350 engine so I got the engine in and everything bolted up now when I went to put starter in it would not fit even the starter from the 1979 Camaro never fit the. Bellhousing would not let me bolt the starter in so I cut it to allow starter to fit and thus works fine now last week I tried to drive for the first time with 350 started up went to put in gear and I could not shift when running shifed fine off. So my question is since the motor was a 305 85 this would be a a Chevy motor not a bop(Buick olds Pontiac ) as I think they used gm 305 this year so is it possible my bellhousing is is incorrect for my 1979 350? Im thinking he bellhousing for this 305 is different from a 350 bellhousing also the teeth I have on flywheel are 153 and was told that the 403 bellhousing was correct and the 168 teeth was for the 621 bellhousing. This is driving me nuts please if anyone has seen this let me know

well if the car started without a grinding sound you dont have a tooth count problem. If the car wont go into gear when running you have a clutch problem. I believe you have a hydraulic clutch. Did you bleed it? Do you see the rod in the slave cylinder move when you depress the clutch? Did you correctly install the throwout bearing? Can you see inside the bellhousing to see if the clutch disengages when stepping on the pedal?

I did bleed the brakes the slave cylinder does move the fork it all worked fine with the 305 it's not working with the 350 The only thing I can think of now is maybe clutch is backwards all I know is the bellhousing may or may not be correct

why are you stating you bled the brakes, a typo? Did you bleed the clutch slave cylinder? If you had to cut the bell housing it sounds like it's the wrong one but i would check the throwout bearing installation on the clutch fork and the direction of the clutch disc.

Yes sorry typo as for the clutch I'm going to have to check to see if it is backwards but I'm sure it's in the correct but I could be wrong
