I have a 1983 firebird I just bought yesterday. It originally had a 2.5 L but the previous owner dropped in a chevy 350. My uncle has a brand new 383 stroker motor wasting away in his garage and is willing to sell it to me. I no idea if the transmission in the car now will bolt up, and if it does how long will it last with that 383. Its a three speed auto, what trans is recommended for a 383? any advice on this would be great. Thank you!

It's probably either a Turbo Hydramatic 350 or 400. The 400 Turbo is a better choice but depending on the horsepower of the 383, the 350 Turbo may be fine.

350 TH is good for up to 400hp stock. depending on how choppy the cam dependes on the stall required. at the high end of the hp scale it would be benifical to install a separate trany cooler.
