Hey Everybody!
She's been running well for a while but I've noticed that every time I go in for an oil change, my invoice says they put 4.5 or occasionally 5 quarts in. This bugs me because my manual in the glovebox says this girl takes 4.0 quarts. So it's kind of confusing. I check the oil and sometimes it does seem a little high but I lack the confidence to say for sure. The oil changes over the past 2 years would always drip for a few days afterwards and some shops would say I had a massive leak, but not be able to identify the source. The dripping always stopped within a day or so. Well the most recent oil change resulted in a few daily drips and after 6 weeks I took her back, and they said it's the oil pan gasket. I'm just wondering -- does anyone else here have any experience with shops putting in too much oil and blowing the gasket? I'm thinking about learning to do the oild changes myself after I get her repaired again.

You are correct it takes 4 quarts but adding 5 quarts does not cause a oil pan gasket to fail. A competent shop would clean everything off, add a dye to the oil and tell you to come back after 100 miles to find the source of the leak.

wrpdrive26 Thanks - interesting 2001 takes 4.5 but my 2004 manual says 4.0. Who would have known.

Got my oil pan gasket replaced. Hopefully lasts a long time. Next item on agenda is to rebuff the headlamps.
