I'm new here and I don't own a Pontiac..yet. In 1970 I bought a used 1963 Lemans 326 V-8 which was the first car I owned. I'm considering buying one for the nostalgia of owning a car like I had in college. I have been around the british car hobby for years and have restored cars, so I'm not a total novice. My interest is the rarity of the transaxle and avail of parts to rebuild or replace the transaxle if needed. Mine blew out in 1970 and it was hard to find a used transaxle then, I can only imagine what it might be now. Any input about what I might be getting myself into with parts for this car would be appreciated. Don't want to get into something that becomes yard art because of no parts availability.

Sounds like you already know the answer, I wouldnt venture into that area of the hobby. Starting with 64 you have a much better chance of finding what you need.

Yep, That's what I thought. I like the 64-67's, but they lack the nostalgia of being what my first car was. I've watched 63's for a number of years and they've gotten expensive. I noticed there is a Little Indian club out there, and thought maybe someone would have some input about where, if any, parts are available. That's one thing about my Little British Car is, I can just about buy enough repro parts to build one from scratch, right here in the USA. I can't really afford to buy every 63 lemans/ tempest on ebay to stock pile parts though. Sure would be fun if I could.

The aftermarket on Pontiacs is the same, certain year ranges you are golden others dont go near them.

There are a couple of Groups that are very into the 61-63 Tempest/Lemans.

I have a Link to the 61-63 Tempest Forum on the Performance years Site

And the Little Indians Chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI) is dedicated to them.

That being said I do know that some parts can be a challenge to find for them. With you wanting a 326 V-8 Version that makes most engine parts easier to find, But makes Flywheel, and some Transaxle driveshaft 1 year only Parts specific to the 326 Tempests. They can be found, and if you find a good original example that you do not plan on adding a lot of HP to it should be fine.
