I've got a 65 lemans 326 4 speed that is kicking my rear. It's the classic no start no crank with a twist. When turning the ignition to start I get a single click and then all the lights (temp, battery, oil, dash and rear seat lights, ect.) and all power is lost (in short it looks like dead short). Power is restored when the battery is disconnected and reconnected. I've replaced the starter and starter solenoid, the battery and checked the engine wiring harnesses... all are 4.0. Any thoughts?

when this happens what is the voltage reading at the positive battery cable connection at the starter?
have you carefully inspected the battery cables, especially if they are original, that they have not broken inside the insulation?

Next time this happens, rather than disconnecting the battery, wiggle all connections, positive and negative and see if it restores power. It seems like you may have a bad ground.

Yep...you got it. Cleaned the main ground connection and presto. Guess I should have started with the KISS principle. Thanks.
