This is a bit of a two parter. First today i had the issue of the car dying/stalling at stops or low rpm and i have no idea why any suggestions would be helpful. second does anyone know what this is and if it could contribute to the problem?thanks for any help.

It's a broken sensor with what appears to be a vacuum hose connected to it.
With the engine running do you feel suction at the end of the hose?
If you do it's a vacuum leak which will cause stalling.

I checked it does not have any suction. And this is where the lines go if it clarifies things

It is part of the fuel vapor canister system. The broken piece is a solenoid that opens when the temperature in the intake manifold water passage rises. and allows fuel vapor in the top of the fuel tank to be sucked through a carbon canister and into the carburetor to be burned. It acts the way a fuel tank vent used to on pre 1970 cars.

That is a vacuum port on the carburetor base so either at idle or speeds above idle there will be a vacuum leak if not connected.

Find this part or cap the port on the base of the carburetor.
