I am trying to find out if my 77 T/A should have isolator bushings to mount the condenser. I installed those but the condenser is over 2” away from the radiator. It looks to me that the bushing shouldn’t be used in this application.

I just looked in the factory service manual and the exploded parts view doesn't show the bushings, just bolts and nuts. I purchased the insulators from Ames at the same time that I purchased the condenser. Now that it is all installed, it appears to be too far from the radiator.

Did you call Ames tech support?

Yes, the Ames tech said: "That is odd! We’ve always seen the insulators used 72-81, GM part # 331959. I guess it is quite possible some years used a bolt and nut, but the lack of any type of bushing is my only worry."
I hung a shop towel down along side the radiator and it sucked in between the radiator and condenser at an idle. I haven't driven it in hot weather yet, but I'm concerned about over heating in traffic. I am thinking of using something to blank off the sides of the gap if overheating and A/C cooling suffers.

Below is the page from the factory 1977 manual showing that there are no insulators used to mount the condenser. That is what is so confusing.

Look at the Camaro site enlarged pictures. Those bushings mount vertically not horizontally, dont think your car uses them.
