New starter and new battery, but it cranks slow and won't start. It completely drains a battery after a couple of tries.

Could this be a ground issue?

Try it with the spark plugs removed and a little oil in the cylinders. ( Yes , check all your grounds to make sure they are getting a good connection.)

Could be the main bearings are shot and the crank is binding.

Hopefully it's not that.🤞

My engine is grounded from body to manifold (Edelbrock Torquer) and power steering to negative battery post.

The factory ground cable ran from the negative post to a studded head bolt. Is the stud still there or evidence of it being broken off.

No, the ground is to the manifold and one to the battery, but nothing on the head.

You dont see a broken head bolt that would have had a stud on it, front of drivers side head?

Try it with the spark plugs removed and a little oil in the cylinders.
I pulled 5 of the 8 plugs and it cranks almost perfectly and almost started. But there is still some drag, as I said I only removed 5 plugs.

It cranks with all 8 plugs in it now... Not sure why but heck it worked. Now to get it started. All it's doing is cranking.

Rings may of been stuck in the cylinders due to rust or valves might been stuck ,keep trying, you will get it... (y)

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. I am hoping no permanent damage was done.
