77 TA Starter Issues

I had to run a new ground wire, so I connected it it the battery.

A ground wire from the starter to the battery?
Does the gear engage now?

Ground goes to the block and frame and body.

Large cable from battery to the block, smaller ones to frame and body.

Yes, starter works and engages, but I grounded it to the battery. I will remove it and put a 4 gauge ground in it.

I put a 4 gauge ground on the starter and it fired up. Thanks for all the help!
