78 Trans am brakes

Heeelllllpppp! Does anyone have any experience with the brake proportioning valve on a 78 TA with disc front brankes??? I have just put all my brake system back together and then went on to bleed the brakes. As instructed I held in the pin on the ned of the valve and started with the nearest wheel. But I cant get any fluid to the front brakes!! I have plenty to the back (even with the pin held in, but not a drop to the front. Have plenty coming out of the master cylinder but none going through the front brake side of the valve. Also, the pin seems to have stuck in?? Are these easy to strip down??
 
have you tried opening a rear bleed screw with everything on the front closed and then stepping on the peddle to move the piston in the valve?
 
No, I haven't, although I sort of did that originally as I had a leak in the pipe running to the rear axle, where it joins the flexible pipe to the axle. Thats how I knew I had fruid running to the rear OK. Should the little pin on the valve be out during normal operation??
 
When you bleed brakes, start with the farthest wheel. Right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

Thanks for all you help here! I managed to dismantle the valve and clean up the valve and get it working again OK. It was easier than I thought really and as I thought I may have to buy a new one anyway so I thought I may as well have a go! Glad I did.

I need to get hold of some silly bits but will post another thread but if anyone has any rear light bezel nuts kicking around or a couple of rear turn signal bulb holders that I can splice on to my loom then I would appreciate hearing from you! Cheers
 
The bulb sockets are listed in the catalog from www.amesperf.com and may also be available from local auto parts stores. Dont know what the bezel nuts look like but have you tried any of the large hardware chains.
 
Hi guys. Thanks for the tips. I managed to break the old bulbs and remove the remnants from the holders then I managed to clean up the contacts with a tiny dremel wire brush attached to my drill! Put new bulbs in and - hey presto - working lights! Seems to me everytime I open my heart with a problem on the forum I find the strength to have a go myself!! Cool!! Haven't found any bezel nuts yet though and being in the UK none of our shops have anything remotely the same. Never mind, I will keep looking. Just by way of an update, I have now fitted some Raptor mufflers (no tailpipes yet) and have had the old beast running. Probably haven't had it started for about 3 years or so after I rebuilt the engine and put it back in. Sounds grrrrrrreat! (still a bit load for the neighbours through. Still, we lived here before they moved in so it's hard luck really! Anyway, now she's running I have a real incentive to get it finished. Just wish I could afford the petrol for her now!

I wouldn't mind! especially if they pay!!! At least the bits for my car would be cheaper (and the petrol) mind you its a bit far to comute back to work. Anyone got a job over there????:)
