The previous owner of my 79 TA did a complete stock restoration, however I don’t think he used the proper spring rate for the front coils. The car sits higher in front and the gap between tire and outer fender lip is 1 1/2 inches more up front than in back. Two questions. What is the correct spring rate for the Pontiac W72 400 (z code) with WS6 and what are the standard ride height dimensions?

Eaton makes original springs for your car and they show 3. Assuming you have AC and a WS6 their spring is MC1274 you could contact them for the spring rate. An approximate vehicle height might be found in the front of the factory service manual.
One number I found was 548 lbs/in.

Thanks very helpful.
Nothing re ride height in my Pontiac repair manual. i am looking at a ridetech front and rear suspension kit that lowers both ends 2”. I’ll just have to assume that the new ride tech will give me a proper stance. The current front springs are obviously incorrect causing the imbalance.

But it lowers it 2" from stock and then you have to deal with alignment issues.
Are you looking in the factory manual?
If so, nothing in the first section?
If you want stock consider Eaton.

That’s true. I have the 78 Pontiac service manual

Is there a section 0 in the front?

There is a website called the gmarchivecenter.
They do not have Pontiac but the 1979 Camaro shows a height at the frame to the ground in front of the rear tire of 5.8" and from the frame to the ground at the front edge of the door of 6.8". They do not give details on which trim levels.

Thanks, I'll check the GM Archive site. Manual section OA and OB simply addresses vehicle codes and maintenance and lubrication
