Yesterday the speedo just stopped working. I traced it to the cruise control "box". The cable from the tranny spins, going into the CC box, but the "out" shaft doesn't spin.

When I drive the CC works like it should, sets and holds speed, shuts off, etc.

Where can I find out how to open up the box? Are there all kinds of ball bearings and springs and stuff that I'll lose in the shag carpet in front of the TV? I haven't found any pics/drawings on the net.
Thanks!!

Yeah, that's probably what I'll do. I just asked the re-builder if that P/N has the Resume function, as stated in my Pontiac shop manual. My Haynes manual said that I may need to adjust the regulated bleed, to match the speed and set speed. I guess that is the only adjustment needed at install. I may change some of the original hoses while I'm at it.

Anything else to watch for (as long as I route hoses properly)?
Thanks

Which hoses are you referring to?

Trusting my memory, there are about 3 vacuum hoses connected to the transducer. I believe they are original and I thought while I'm in there, replace them.... Thinking about it, if they are vacuum, will they be special (thicker wall to avoid collapse?)?

Maybe I shouldn't screw around with them, if they ain't broke.

If they arent cracked/dried out leave them alone. If they are cracked make sure you get vacuum hose which has a thicker wall to prevent collapse.

Good advise. the cruise functions OK, just not the speedo. I'll check them and not mess with them if OK.
Thanks.

Well, the real fault was the plastic (?) end of the speedo cable broke off in the CC transducer. I could not get it out. Fortunately I had the rebuilt transducer from Cardone (thru Amazon). So I swapped transducers put in an Autozone replacement speedo cable ass'y, adjusted the transducer and am back in business.

The A-zone cable ass'y is 2" longer than stock, there is some buckling of the cable, that I think is causing a waving speedo. I just found out that NAPA sells replacement inner core kits that are cut to length. Tomorrow I'm getting one to go in the original housing and i hope that's the end of this.
