Hello Everyone! I'm new to this forum and relatively new to at-home car repair. The problem I'm having with my 1984 Bonneville arose after the cigarette lighter got stuck in. It eventually popped out but it no longer works. I figured I blew a fuse. I noticed that my radio, rear defrost, and dome light ALSO stopped working the same time this happened.
So, I looked @my fuse panel and realized that it had to be only one or two (or both ) fuses that could possibly be the culprit. I narrowed it down to the fuses labeled PWR ACC and radio. The radio fuse was the kind I'm familiar with; the plastic transparent kind. It's obvious when those blow, you can see the little metal piece inside is broke and/or blackened. But the 10amp fuse in the radio spot was fine. So, I pulled the fuse in the PWR ACC spot. It was labeled "30A 12V". I couldn't tell if it was blown cause it's metal and I couldn't see the inside. I replaced it, 'cause I figured it HAD TO BE the culprit. Well, I plugged in the new 30amp 12volt fuse and all it did was give me rear defrost back. I still have no power to radio, cigarette lighter and dome light. My next thought was I'll have to have the radio pulled and check the fuse behind it. Probably have to replace the entire cig lighter socket. But I don't have the tools or knowledge to do that and no money for pro repairs. Honestly, I can live without the radio and dome light, but I REALLY need the cig. lighter, 'cause my crap phone is always dying and needs to charge.
I welcome any and all suggestions and advice. I really hope there's a cheap at-home fix, but the solution is escaping me. I'm a single hard working mom, who's tired of bein taken advantage of and screwed over by unscrupulous mechanics. PLEASE HELP!
