Have an 86 fiero 2.5l standard trans that runs pretty well but... I lose power and run rough at higher rpm. Engine check light comes on but will go off if I let off the gas and allow it to run smooth again. Have changed plugs and wires, run fuel injector cleaner through it several times, and see no obvious defects with the engine. Runs like a champ at lower rpm. Anybody have any ideas?

You need to find out if its fuel related or ignition related. As mels55 suggested, Change fuel filter and check fuel pressure first. If those are good, it could also be the ignition coil, the ignition module or the ignition pick-up coil in the distributor. You can borrow a timing light from a local auto parts store and hook it up to the #1 spark plug wire. Then rev the engine and watch the flashes from the timing light. It will look like a strobe light and flash faster as RPM increases. If you see the light start to "miss" flashes, the problem would most likely be in the ignition system.
